2010 ELECTION WRAP-UP
The Vermont League of Conservation Voters (VT LCV) is the only environmental organization in the state that directly supports candidates for elected office. We support Green candidates in a variety of strategic ways and have been doing so for the past 28 years.
2010 was the first year in our history the VT LCV worked directly in support of a candidate for Governor. If our first effort is any indication of future success, we have achieved real momentum and credibility among Vermont voters and candidates.
Building off our tremendous success in 2008, the VT LCV took what it had learned supporting excellent House and Senate candidates and applied those lessons to our work in the gubernatorial race. The VT LCV endorsed Senator Peter Shumlin after he won a rousing 5-way Democratic primary. We then worked intensively to Get Out the Green Vote and, given a final vote margin of less than 5000, VT LCV’s efforts clearly played a significant role in securing Governor-Elect Shumlin’s victory.
The VT LCV's Work Included

- Over 20,000 doors knockedand phones rung
- 8,685 Voter contacts
- Including over 3,000 call-backs to target voters in the final 48 hours of the campaign
- 435 New Registered voters
- 1,727 Target voters voted early or by absentee ballot
- 2,863 additional voters affirmed their support for green candidates by signing the green voter pledge
- 50,000 pieces of literature mailed or hand-delivered to target voters
- 5,298 hits to the Vote Green VT website
- Developing the only App for the iPhone and the Droid to support VT candidates in the 2010 election cycle
Beyond our grassroots “get out the green vote” work, the VT LCV contributed to numerous events supporting Peter Shumlin's campaign including a celebration of his work addressing climate change on 10/10/10, the global day of action to stop climate change.
And, in addition to our work on the gubernatorial race, VT LCV vigorously supported numerous Senate and House candidates resulting in over 90% of the VT LCV-endorsed candidates winning their seats on Election Day.
None of this would be possible without your help. Now, more than ever, we need your support to continue VT LCV’s year-round work to ensure strong environmental legislation is passed by the leaders we helped elect.
Please consider making a contribution to VT LCV today, so our 2012 election effort is even more successful than our 2010 campaign.
